In 1996 Tony Harrison is an Observer in the Fleet Air Arm and is flying Sea King helicopters on exercise in the Northern Atlantic. Lieutenant Charles Bradshaw is flying combat missions against the Japanese Navy in his F4F-4 Wildcat over the Pacific Ocean in 1942. One day their worlds collide and the adventure begins.
The war against the Japanese is raging across the Pacific, but on a small Island, inhabited by simple Polynesian natives, something far more sinister is afoot. A US plane spotter mysteriously disappears. Father Matthew, an Irish missionary, is cast out from the only village to fight for survival alone in the jungle, but quickly meets an ally in the form of Frank, an American enigma who takes the Holy Father under his wing. A young girl is left stranded on a deserted beach after the Australian sailors that rescued her from Java are all killed in a Japanese bombing raid and finally, the local fishermen are starting to disappear as the Japanese Army moves across the island.
The scene is set for an explosive sequence of events that will have far reaching consequences across time itself. Amidst the despair and treachery, this unlikely team must fight together to stop history being re-written and to guarantee their own safety, but time and again they will be thwarted. Will they get a second chance?
Back in 1996, at home in Cornwall Laura is unsure of her feelings for the man she has been dating for three months. Her quiet life as a Teaching Assistant is turned upside-down as she learns of Tony’s accident and she starts to discover her true feelings as she co-exists between her work and his bed-side. Together with his doctor, Mike Phillips, she must unravel the mystery to discover a strategy that will bring him home.
‘Time and Again’ is the first novel by Ian Weaver in the ‘Harry’ Harrison trilogy and will take you on a journey of war, love, happiness and despair. Time itself will become the enemy until they realise that ‘Sometimes you have to go back in order to move forward.’

I will be going to work tomorrow on very little sleep as I stayed up much too late finishing "Time and Again."It's the great story of a World War II American fighter pilot and a modern day Royal Navy helicopter pilot -- and the bond they share despite the decades that separate them.
I won't try to recap everything here, but I can say, without a doubt, that this story is full of twists and turns that will keep you reading until the very end. Then you'll be looking forward to the sequel.

Time and Again edition by Ian Weaver Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I enjoy a story that is unpredictable, one that doesn't telegraph every turn of the plot so thoroughly in advance that the story is obvious before it unfolds.
Time and Again certainly provided many surprises. From the moment the main character floats back in time to 1942, you think you know where this story is headed, but you don't.
Time and Again is a well written exploration of modern and WWII military operations. The author, with many years in the RAF, certainly demonstrates his knowledge down to the details. I enjoyed the gritty realism of the opening helicopter crash, as well as other action sequences in the book. The heros and heroines are likable, the villains are generally despicable-- all in keeping with the genre.
This book is a great read if you enjoy military action, thrillers, mysteries or time travel novels.
TIME AND AGAIN
IAN WEAVER
This novel is an entertaining and intriguing mixture of action, war, romance and science fiction. It reminded me of the work of Christopher Priest.
Weaver lives up to his name by weaving a complex narrative which ranges over time, space and personality. The characters face challenges and change because of them. I liked the fact that both his heroes and villains are entertaining and multi-dimensional.
The first chapter gives a lot of technical detail. Personally, this is not what I like but soon Weaver's narrative gusto took over and I was as caught up in events as much as his protagonist.
I shall look forward to his new novel Frozen in Time.

Pick and Mix
I found out about this book through a recommendation of author Stephen King who wrote a recent time travel novel "11/22/63". It is a slow starter but a page turner thereafter. Check it out. Check out the Stephen King time travel novel too! Both books give a different spin than the usual on time travel plot stories. Enough said!
I have no idea where this book was going. I roughed it out until I got halfway, but then I thought I'm supposed to be enjoying this. Life is too short to read a book like this.
This book took off fabulously but unfortunately then crashed. The events about the aircraft carrier, the helicopter and such were presented in an authentic fashion, flowed well and most importantly gave enough technical detail to paint a realistic backdrop without being overwhelming. I was particularly impressed with the care that Weaver gave to character development. They showed complex emotions, layers of indecision and perplexity that often are lacking in tales that focus on military events. This was best exemplified by the confusion and distress of the protagonist as he pieced together clues that after a 1990s helicopter accident in the North Atlantic he somehow regained consciousness in 1942 in the South Pacific. He was confused and at times questioned his sanity (or even whether he was still alive at all). Bravo. Unfortunately, after several chapters the writing and the story changed abruptly, almost as if the book were taken over by a different author. Instead of a single story connected by a time travel event, there were two parallel and independent plots. The occasional attempts to connect the two were tenuous at best. The characters became flat and the writing was simplistic. The attempt to patch the two plots together at the end of the book was outrageous and unbelievable. SF involves invention that might be based on weird science or magic. It does not matter as long as the story is interesting and consistent. In the end, this book was neither.
The answer to this strange and unfortunate transformation may lay in a note after the conclusion, where Weaver notes that the first several chapters were written before an accident that eventually ended his Royal Navy career. He picked back up with the book after his recovery and is trying a writing career following the Navy. "Weaver I" may have spent a lot of time with revision and crafting of a "hobby" before the accident. Afterwards, "Weaver II" may have felt pressure to finish as he transitioned toward writing as a livelihood. The effort at accuracy and detail were gone. Instead, there were instances such as a WWII US Navy pilot saying that he was in the US Air Force, which is wrong on two counts (the US Air Force was not formed until 1949; it was the Army Air Corps in WWII). I would love to read more from "Weaver I" but not from "Weaver II".
I usually enjoy time travel books - and this one is excellent! The time periods - now and 1942 - are seamlessly interwoven and there are plenty of surprises along the way. I won't talk about the story as I don't want to spoil any intending readers' enjoyment, I'll just say that I spent way too much time reading this book when I should have been doing other things, like sleeping!
The book is very well written and it's hard to believe this is the author's first novel.
Now I'm just going to have to try and wait patiently for the next book in the series - according to the author's website the book is with the publisher so I hope it is published very soon - and in a edition of course)
